How can Faith Communities Tackle Health Inequalities in the UK? FaithAction meets Dr. Datapwa Mujong

We were delighted to sit down with Dr. Datapwa Mujong, a GP based in North Kensington with an extended role in population health and an interest in health equity, to discuss his latest article, Engaging with faith communities to tackle ethnic health inequalities in the UK: a scoping review published in BMJ Public Health in January 2026.

It’s an important piece of research for anyone interested in the role faith organisation can play in tackling inequalities, and public health. We’re particularly excited as Datapwa’s research builds upon our own groundbreaking review in 2014, titled The Impact of Faith-Based Organisations on Public Health and Social Capital, which was one of the first in the UK to consider faith-based organisations through this framework. Datapwa explores the UK literature around faith and public health since 2014 and the barriers and facilitators which continue to influence engagement.
