Government launches new consultation on employment rights for unpaid carers

The Department for Business and Trade have launched a new consultation looking at the employment rights for unpaid carers, following a long campaign by Carers UK.

Across the UK, millions of people provide unpaid care for disabled, older or ill relatives and friends whilst also trying to remain in paid employment. Many carers face significant challenges balancing work and caring responsibilities.

The consultation will be open for 12 weeks, until 1st September 2026.
