Government publishes new National Cancer Plan

The UK government has published a National Cancer Plan aiming to improve long-term survival rates for people diagnosed with cancer in England. The plan sets a target that three in four patients diagnosed from 2035 onwards will survive at least five years. Measures include improvements in early diagnosis, treatment speed, and the use of new technologies, with a goal of meeting all cancer waiting time standards by 2029.

Key measures include commitments to faster diagnosis, quicker treatment and expanded use of advanced technology, such as robot-assisted surgery, along with a pledge that the NHS will meet all cancer waiting time standards by March 2029, improving timely access to care.
