Not by choice – the unequal impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on disempowered ethnic minority and migrant communities

The Race Equality Foundation (REF) have published a new report: Not by choice – the unequal impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on disempowered ethnic minority and migrant communities

REF was commissioned by UKRI in collaboration with UCL and DOTW to analyse the unequal impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly on ethnic minority and migrant communities.

The resulting report shows that too many of the policy decisions that were made during this health emergency either did not understand the evidence on inequality or ignored it, and that this was particularly true for ethnic minorities and migrants.

The COVID-19 pandemic revealed the true scale of inequality in the UK, particularly for people from ethnic minority communities and for migrants. Their findings point to the conclusion that better, evidence-based and responsive policy and practice could have changed these outcomes.
