Building Back Better

The Role of Faith

About us

Many years of working with faith communities has made the contribution of faith to society clear to us, both during and beyond crises. However, we have also seen how often this value goes overlooked.

For that reason, in November 2020, FaithAction hosted a virtual conference, Building Back Better: The Role of Faith. The purpose of the conference was twofold:

  1. to highlight and celebrate the ways in which faith communities have responded to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  2.  to bring attention to the benefits faith communities bring to British society beyond crisis response.

It was never our intent for this conference to be a one-off event. Instead, we planned for the Building Back Better conference to act as the start of a national conversation that would continue throughout the pandemic and beyond, seeking to raise the profile of faith in British society and advocate for the inclusion of faith communities in policy – particularly those policies aimed at ‘levelling up our communities’ and ‘building back better’.

This microsite will act as the hub through which this conversation will continue. Featuring articles, interviews, reports and the conference videos from a variety of faith leaders, politicians, academics and practitioners, the Building Back Better site brings together a variety of different perspectives, which may or may not agree with each other, but which all aim to shine a light on the role faith plays in society today and the ways in which faith communities ought to be included in the rebuild.

We hope you’ll join the conversation!
