Charitable income in England and Wales up by over £4.6bn

Income of registered charities in England and Wales grew by £4.6bn compared to the previous period, according to annual returns filed with the Charity Commission in the year to September 2015.

The total number of staff working in the sector increased by 46,000 to 947,000, but the number of volunteers reported in annual returns fell by over 500,000 to around 3.2 million.

Total income for registered charities rose to £69.5bn.
