Charity tax reliefs up to £3.31bn in 2014/15

The value of tax relief to charities increased almost 8 per cent to £3.31bn in 2014/15, according to new figures published by HMRC.

Annual tax statistics show business rates relief accounted for the highest proportion of the relief, at £1.64bn. Gift Aid followed at £1.2bn, with an additional £300m in VAT reliefs and £170m in Stamp Duty Land Tax relief.

The Gift Aid Small Donations scheme, extensions to which were announced in the last Budget, returned £21m.
