Charity Commission tougher, smarter, more proactive – Sussex

The Charity Commission is getting tougher on charities that fail to comply with the law, the regulator’s chief executive Paula Sussex has said.

Sussex said the commission has changed its strategic approach, and is becoming “tougher, smarter, more agile and more proactive”. The commission has already become a more robust regulator, Sussex said, pointing to the 64 statutory inquiries opened in 2013-14.

In notes to a speech to the Charity Finance Summit, Sussex said that the “distinct, precious” role charities have in society rests to a large degree on the public’s trust and confidence in them.
