Charities raise concerns about potential Welfare cuts

A number of charities including the NCVO, Age UK, Banardos & Shelter have written a letter to Nicky Morgan MP, the Economic Secretary to the Treasury, raising their concerns about the proposed cap on welfare spending which would place limits on the annual social security spend. The charities voiced their concern that the limits are a “blunt measure” that would compound the hardship of the most vulnerable. The letter also highlighted a statement from the Institute of Fiscal Studies stating a benefit cap wouldn’t by itself make for better policy-making, but would depend on how expenditure was managed as a result.
