Panorama plans charity salary special
BBC Panorama is currently producing a programme investigating charity chief executives' pay, to be broadcast in November, civilsociety.co.uk understands.
A BBC spokeswoman would not confirm or deny that an investigation is under way, only saying: “At any one time the BBC is working on any number of investigations and we don’t comment on these.”
The issue of the pay packets of charity chief executives hit the media spotlight in the summer, when the Daily Telegraph criticised international aid charity senior executives who earned over £100,000 and reported Charity Commission chair William Shawcross as saying that "disproportionate" salaries risked bringing the sector into disrepute.
Other right-wing media outlets followed suit, leading to a national debate on charity sector pay.
It is understood that the Panorama programme on charity executive pay, which is scheduled for 28 November, will have a wider focus than aid agencies.
