Personal, Fair and Diverse Council to launch as part of the NHS Commissioning Board

The NHS Equality and Diversity Council (EDC), chaired by Sir David Nicholson, Chief Executive of the NHS Commissioning Board (NHS CB), has announced that it is to change its name to the Personal, Fair and Diverse (PFD) Council.

The announcement comes ahead of the Council’s first NHS Values Summit in Leeds on 28 November 2012. Leaders from across health and social care will join local community representatives to debate key issues around social value and ethical leadership, reinforce the values of the NHS Constitution and share local best practice and insight.

One of the event’s key aims is to create a platform to bring communities and health and care leaders together to create a greater understanding of how people’s differences can affect their experiences, health outcomes and quality of care.

The event will provide a template for future NHS Values Summits to be held twice a year in different locations across the country and signals the start of a new, more inclusive way of working for the Council.  It will also kick start a six-month programme of engagement across the health and social care system to inform the Council’s activities and the next NHS Values Summit in May 2013.
