Extended Description
The Gateshead Fund is provided and administered by Gateshead Council and is designed to develop and build capacity of local voluntary organisations.
The scheme is divided into two strands:
- Local Community Fund: this strand is accessible through local ward councillors for local issues with the aim of actively promoting community engagement and development.
- Gateshead Capacity Building Fund: this strand is targeted at organisations to expand their activities and build their capacity, allowing them to diversify their income and become more sustainable.

Key Criteria
Community and voluntary groups and social enterprises within Gateshead are eligible to apply.
Eligible Expenditure
Capacity Building Fund
Support is for organisations to diversify their income by:
- Increasing skills and expertise.
- Expanding services.
- Considering new ways of working.
The aim is to build capacity so that organisations become more sustainable. Examples of what will supported include:
- Consultancy fees.
- Training.
- Increasing volunteering opportunities.
- Expanding or developing activities or services.
- Feasibility studies to consider different ways of working.
- Implementing Social Impact techniques (including outcomes measurement, monitoring and evaluation procedures).
- Collaborations / mergers / partnership working development.
- Community Asset Transfer development – organisations / consortia (including groups of individuals) wanting to run their own building.
- Marketing / promotion.
- Fact finding visits to establish good / best practice.
- Environmental sustainability projects eg renewable energy.
- Core costs; such as salaries, utilities, rents, rates, volunteer expenses (This will be on a sliding scale depending on size and capacity of the organisation).
