FaithAction Coffee House: Risk Assessments

Date
Wednesday, 5th August 2020
Time
11:00am - 12:00pm

We’re opening up a weekly FaithAction Coffee House for all of our members.

With the help of one or two guest speakers, we will facilitate a conversation on a topic of interest to you, before opening the floor for each of you to share any stories, best-practices, or challenges you’ve faced. It’s an opportunity for each of you to share what you’ve learnt with others, and to glean wisdom and ideas from each other as you learn about what other members around the country are up to.

You’re likely facing many of the same challenges; why not see if anyone else has a solution!

Next week’s theme will be risk assessments.

Faith centres are often the go-to place for the “lost”, the “homeless” and the “weary”. They are a place of first contact for those looking for points of connection, whether because they are new to an area, or because they feel that they don’t have anyone else to turn to. This puts faith groups in a unique position to help those wanting to feel more connected to their community. FaithAction’s own Creative English programme makes use of faith centres, using this point of connection to help people develop their confidence using English within their communities while learning through drama and roleplay.

At a time when our normal ways of connecting have been lost, when our places of worship cannot carry out their normal ways of fellowship, and when our community centres are limited in what services they can offer, how do we encourage a sense of integration and belonging among our communities? Has the coronavirus crisis helped us to develop more of a sense of belonging, as we look to help each other during this difficult time? How do we continue to encourage integration and belonging in our communities, especially during a time when we may feel so much more divided?
